Tojiha isn’t a big company. It’s my personal project. I’m an ordinary working person like anyone else, and I build Tojiha in my free time, mostly after work and on weekends.
Whenever I needed to merge or split a PDF, I kept landing on sites full of ads, sign-ups and limits. Worse, I never knew where my files were being uploaded. So I built my own tool.
The goal is simple: an app that does its job without the clutter. Open it, drop in your files, done.
Security comes first
- Your files never leave your device. All processing happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server, not even ours.
- Nothing is stored. Files exist only in the memory of the open tab and disappear when you close it. There are no accounts and no database where anything could be written.
- The site is not allowed to send anything. Strict browser security rules (Content Security Policy) forbid the page from sending data to other servers.
- The result contains only what you choose. No hidden pages or other data from the original file end up in the new PDF. Password-protected PDFs are unlocked on your device and the password goes nowhere.
- No tracking. No ads, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. We only see visits as aggregated numbers.
- Works offline too. Once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet – proof that your files go nowhere.
What I care about
- Your files stay with you. Everything is processed right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
- Free, no sign-up. You don’t need an account or a subscription.
- Simplicity first. A clean interface with just what you need.
How Tojiha works
Everything happens right in your browser. When you add a PDF, the tool loads it into your device’s memory, shows the previews and builds the new file there too. Nothing is uploaded to any server, which is also why Tojiha works offline. You can safely use it for contracts, ID documents or bank statements.
What it will do
- Merge PDFs in any order, as whole files or page by page
- Split a PDF into single pages, by page ranges or by picking pages
- Rotate and remove pages, and rename the result before downloading
- Unlock a password-protected PDF right on your device
- Undo any change
Where the name comes from
Tojiha comes from the Japanese word tojiru (綴じる), which means to bind sheets of paper together. The paper bird in the logo is a nod to origami: a plain sheet of paper turned into something useful.
Next up are making PDFs smaller and turning images into PDF. Over time I want to add mainly tools you won’t find elsewhere. Tojiha stays free, and its tools will keep working without uploading your files.
